Laptop Battery Charging

  • Laptop battery won't charge - Make sure the laptop is receiving power. Is the AC power light on? If not is the laptop battery charger (AC adaptor) plugged in correctly?. If it is, then you may need a new laptop battery charger. If the laptops AC power light is lit, is the battery charge light on? If not the battery or the power system in the laptop may be defective.
  • AC power light flickers - When the AC adapter is plugged into a laptop the power supply light should remain constant. If the light flickers, the plug may not be connected properly into the power supply, the power lead may be faulty or the AC adapter may be faulty.
  • Lost laptop battery charger - Replacement laptop battery chargers (AC adaptors) are available both from the laptop manufacturer and usually a 3rd party manufacturer at a cheaper price. The 3rd party laptop battery charger will usually be cheaper but made to the same specifications.
  • Using a friends laptop battery charger - You shouldn't do this due to the possibility of different voltage and amperage requirements of the laptop. However some universal laptop battery chargers do exisit which come with different tips to fit different laptops.
  • Charging in the car or airplane - Its possible to buy a laptop battery charger for use in a car or airplane for many laptops. In a car they plug into the cigarette lighter and on an airplane they plug into a power socket near the seat (usually only found on first class seats)
  • Laptop battery won't charge in foreign country - Check the voltage of the wall socket and the voltage required on your laptop battery charger. If the voltage from the wall socket is not high enough to meet the minimum required by the laptop battery charger then the AC adaptor won't work and your laptop battery won't charge.
